Product Information
2-(3-Methoxyphenyl)-2-oxoacetic acid is a ketone that has two reactive sites, which are the carbonyl group and the hydroxyl group. It can be decarboxylated to form 2-oxopropanoic acid. It is a substrate for the catalytic reaction of allyl alcohol with allyl chloride to form allyl chloride. The equilibrium lies in favour of decarboxylation because it is more energetically favourable than esterification. The decarboxylative allylation reaction occurs when an alkene reacts with an alkyne to form a 1,3-diene. Decarboxylative allylation reactions produce byproducts such as propargylic alcohols and propargylic ethers.
