Description

4-Methylbenzyl-3-thio-propionic acid (4MP) is a drug that is used to treat cancer. It inhibits the expression of oxytocin receptor and induces apoptosis in human breast cancer cells, such as MDA-MB-231 cells. 4MP has been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane potential collapse and cytosolic Ca2+ overload, followed by apoptosis induction. This drug also binds to the polymerase chain reaction to inhibit transcription of DNA. Clinical trials have shown that 4MP can be used as an adjuvant treatment for women with breast cancer who are taking metoprolol succinate.
