L-Methionine beta-naphthylamide is a 2-naphthylamine that is a condensation product of l-methionine and hydroxylamine. It contains an amino group, amide, and carboxy group. This compound has two stereoisomers, which are enantiomers. The two enantiomers differ in the orientation of the chiral carbon atom in the carboxy group to the plane of the molecule. L-methionine beta-naphthylamide is used as a food additive with E number E639. It is also used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
