Description

Alpha-Methyl-L-phenylalanine is a low potency inhibitor of protein synthesis. It binds to the active site of creatine kinase and prevents ATP from binding, which inhibits the conversion of ADP to ATP. This leads to decreased phosphorylation of proteins and impaired protein synthesis. Alpha-Methyl-L-phenylalanine also inhibits the synthesis of dopamine, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and other monoamines. The chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CI MS) provides high values for this compound, but experimental model systems are not available.
