O-Methyl-D-tyrosine is a functional group that is found in many biomolecules. It is an isomer of L-tyrosine, which is the amino acid commonly referred to as tyrosine. O-Methyl-D-tyrosine’s primary function in cells is to regulate the production of proteins, hormones, and neurotransmitters. This compound also has been shown to be a ligand for nerve growth factor receptors and can prevent nerve injury after surgery. Studies on humans and animals have shown that O-methyl-D-tyrosine can improve postoperative recovery by decreasing inflammation and preventing cell death in neurons.
