Product Information

Name:
N-Methyl-L-aspartic acid hydrochloride
Synonyms:
  • N-Me-L-Asp-OH·HClL-2-Methylaminosuccinic acid hydrochloride
  • N-Methyl-L-Aspartic Acid
Description:

N-Methyl-L-aspartic acid hydrochloride is a compound that inhibits the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase, which converts glutamate to gamma-aminobutyric acid. It has been shown to be a potent antagonist of the NMDA receptor and has been used in research on the prevention of neuronal death from glutamate toxicity. This drug also prevents fatty acids from being broken down into individual molecules. In sublethal doses, n-methyl-L-aspartic acid hydrochloride can induce acid formation in kidney bean extract.
