N-Me-DL-phenylglycine hydrochloride is a non-protein amino acid with the chemical formula C6H8ClNO2. It is used in biochemical research as a substrate for oxidation reactions, as it has an easily oxidized amine group on one of its side chains. N-Me-DL-phenylglycine hydrochloride is used to study glyoxalase I and II enzymes that catalyze the first step in the degradation of glyoxal. The compound can be used to measure the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of antimicrobial agents by measuring the growth rate of bacteria exposed to different concentrations of antibiotic.
