N-Methyl-L-threonine hydrochloride is a glycan that belongs to the genus of Threonine. It has been shown to have clinical use in the prevention and treatment of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection, as well as other clinical applications. N-Methyl-L-threonine hydrochloride inhibits HSV replication by preventing viral attachment to the host cell and blocking viral penetration into host cells. The compound also has significant inhibitory activity against bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. N-Methyl-L-threonine hydrochloride blocks glutamate uptake in activated human neutrophils, which may be due to its hydrogen bond interactions with glutamate and its ability to bind fatty acids on the surface of bacteria. This drug can be used in analytical methods for measuring the uptake of drugs by cells or tissues.
