DL-Methioninol is a copper complex that has been used in the treatment of infectious diseases. It is an analog of methionine and can be activated by ethylene diamine to form its active form, DL-methioninol-2. The compound binds to the pyrimidine moiety of DNA and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death. DL-Methioninol also has diagnostic properties for use as a contrast agent in imaging studies of the bladder or other organs. This compound has anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
