5-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-2H-tetrazole is a synthetic, potentiodynamic polarization corrosion inhibitor. It is used in the chemical industry as an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) efficiency probe. 5-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-2H-tetrazole has been shown to inhibit the corrosion of steel and copper by hydrochloric acid. It has a dipole moment that can be used to measure its concentration in solution. The oxidation potential of 5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2H-tetrazole is -0.93 V versus SCE (saturated calomel electrode). This functional group also has a high inhibition potential, which makes it useful for corrosion protection applications.
