2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)succinic acid (2MPSA) is an electrochemical catalyst that can be used in the synthesis of alkenes. It has a high selectivity, high yields, and a constant activity. 2MPSA is a strong Lewis acid with a low affinity for water. 2MPSA is also stable under harsh conditions and can be used as an electrode in the presence of magnesium and aluminum. The catalytic mechanism of 2MPSA is still unclear, but it may involve electrophilic addition to the double bond of the substrate molecule.
