Product Information

Name:
4-Methylbenzoyl cyanide
Synonyms:
  • Oxo-p-tolyl-acetonitrile
  • Oxo-P-Tolyl-Acetonitrile
Description:

4-Methylbenzoyl cyanide is a compound that can be used as a chemical reagent. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of malonates, acetoacetates and esters. 4-Methylbenzoyl cyanide can also be used to catalyze the reaction between hydrocyanic acid and acetoacetate, which leads to the formation of acetylacetonate. This product has been used in mechanistic studies to study the role of transition metals for activation of reactants. The reactivity of this compound was studied by single-crystal x-ray analysis and it was found that methylbenzoyl cyanides are activated by transition metals such as nickel, palladium and platinum.
