Product Information
- DL-2-Amino-3-(5-methylindolyl)propionic acidDL-5-Methyltryptophan
5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan is an amino acid that is used in the synthesis of proteins. It is a structural analog of tryptophan and is used as a biochemical tool to study the roles of α-subunit, protein, and nuclear DNA. 5-Methyl-DL-tryptophan has been shown to be effective against resistant mutants that are resistant to 5-methyl tryptophan by using titration calorimetry to measure the amount of heat released in wild type and mutant strains. This experiment was conducted by growing both strains in media with different concentrations of anthranilate, which is the precursor for tryptophan synthesis, and then measuring the amount of heat released. The wild type strain showed increased levels of heat release at all concentrations while the mutant strain did not show any increase in heat release until a higher concentration was reached.
