Product Information

Name:
Methyl 6-Hydroxy-1-Naphthoate
Description:

Methyl 6-hydroxy-1-naphthoate is a naphthalene metabolite that has been shown to inhibit the growth of carcinoma cells in vitro. It has been suggested that this agent may have potential for the treatment of carcinoma, lung fibroblasts, and other tumor cells. Methyl 6-hydroxy-1-naphthoate is not active against normal fibroblast cells. This agent is converted to glycosaminoglycans by acid conjugation and xylosylation reactions. Methyl 6-hydoxy-1-naphthoate inhibits protein synthesis by binding to amino acids and preventing their incorporation into proteins. It also inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting the production of nucleotides from bases, which are necessary for DNA replication.
