2-Methoxy-4-nitrobenzaldehyde (2MOBA) is a chemical compound that reacts with 3-fluoro-4-methylphenol to form 2,4-dichloro-3-methylphenol. The reaction is catalyzed by acid and base, and the organic solvent is used as a reaction medium. The reaction time can be increased by adding tribromide as an activator.
2MOBA is also an inorganic nucleophilic substitution agent. It will react with acetaldehyde to form 2,4,5-trichlorophenol. It will react with nitro groups on aromatic compounds to form dinitrophenols. Demethylation of phenols can be achieved by using nitrous acid or sulfuric acid. Finally, regiospecificity can be achieved by using copper(II) salts or potassium permanganate as a catalyst.
