N-(2-Methylphenyl)thiourea is a white solid that dissolves in water, methanol and chloroform. It is a thiourea derivative that can be used as an organic solvent. The reaction time of the N-(2-methylphenyl)thiourea with hydrogen chloride is about 10 minutes. In order to make the N-(2-methylphenyl)thiourea react with hydrogen chloride, a solution of the two substances should be heated to about 100°C for about 1 hour. The reaction will be complete when there are no more bubbles coming from the solution. The product obtained is 2-methylbenzene-1,4-diamine (MBDA). This process has been shown to be spontaneous and it does not require any external energy input.
