Description:
Methyl 2,4-dioxo-4-(2-thienyl)butanoate is an aromatic aldehyde. It can be synthesized by the reaction of equimolar amounts of hydrazine and methyl 4-oxobutanoate in the presence of concentrated hydrochloric acid. Methyl 2,4-dioxo-4-(2-thienyl)butanoate is used as a monohydrate salt that has properties similar to those of sodium chloride. It is soluble in water and has a melting point of about 192 °C.
