1-Methyl-piperidine-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is an analgesic that belongs to the group of alcohols. It has been synthesized in a two step process, by first reacting butyllithium with 1-methylpiperidine and then adding lithium diisopropylamide. The synthesis yields a mixture of pyridines, chlorides, methylmagnesium chloride and ketones. The borohydride reduction of the mixture yields the desired product as well as phenylpiperidines and acetone.
