Description:
1-Methyl-piperidine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1MPCE) is a phenyloxadiazolyl derivative that was synthesized to investigate the effects of oxadiazole derivatives on Alzheimer's disease. 1MPCE and its metabolites are able to cross the blood brain barrier and have been shown to have a high affinity for the hippocampus and forebrain regions of the brain. 1MPCE has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine in the nervous system. This inhibition leads to an increase in acetylcholine levels, which may be beneficial for patients with Alzheimer's disease.
