Product Information
- 6-Methyl-4-oxo-4H-chromene-2-carboxylic acid6-Methyl-4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid
6-Methylchromone-2-carboxylic acid is a corrosion inhibitor that is used to protect metal surfaces from corrosion. It is one of the most effective corrosion inhibitors for aluminium and its alloys. 6-Methylchromone-2-carboxylic acid protects against corrosion by forming a protective film on the metal surface. This film consists of an organic layer and an inorganic layer, which are generated when the metal surface reacts with the 6-methylchromone-2-carboxylic acid. The organic layer is formed when the carboxyl group reacts with the hydroxyl group on the metal surface forming an ester bond. The inorganic layer is formed when 6-methylchromone-2-carboxylic acid reacts with atmospheric oxygen to form a chromium oxide (CrO) film. Techniques used to identify this compound include infrared spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
