It is a competitive antagonist of the vanilloid receptor, which is involved in mediating inflammatory responses. 3-(3-Methylphenyl)propanoic acid has been shown to have both biological and pharmacological activities, including inhibition of dopamine release, and antagonizing the effects of adenosine on human erythrocytes.
