Description:
(S)-(+)-2-Methylglutaric acid is a chiral molecule. It has been shown to be an intermediate in the metabolism of fatty acids in marine sponges, ascidians and microbes. The rate of the reaction is influenced by the concentration of methanol, which is a reagent that increases the solubility of (S)-(+)-2-methylglutaric acid. Kinetic analysis has shown that lipase from coryneform bacteria catalyzes this reaction.
