Methyl D-3-phenyllactate is a synthetic chemical compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of compounds. It has been shown to be a good substrate for transfer reactions and aminations, as well as being able to maximize the yield of cyclic syntheses. Methyl D-3-phenyllactate can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of bortezomib, an anti-cancer agent. This compound is synthetically produced by transferring a methyl group from dimethylaniline to 3-phenylpropionic acid followed by hydrolysis. The process has been optimized for maximum yield with minimal waste products.
