Product Information

Name:
1-Methyl-3-n-octylimidazolium Bromide
Synonyms:
  • 1-Octyl-3-Methylimidazolium Bromide
Description:

1-Methyl-3-n-octylimidazolium Bromide (1MIB) is a viscosity enhancer that belongs to the group of polymerization agents. It is used in the production of polyurethanes, silicones, and other materials with high viscosities. 1MIB has been found to be toxic to many organisms and has been shown to inhibit enzyme activity in nutrient solutions. It also reacts with pyridinium ions, which can lead to polymerization reactions. The solubility of 1MIB in water is low, so it can be used as a reactive solvent for the preparation of organic compounds. 1MIB is soluble in acetone and methanol. 1MIB does not react with Triticum aestivum at room temperature or when heated up to 100°C.
