Description

1-Methyl-3-n-octylimidazolium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound that is used in wastewater treatment as a coagulant. It has been shown to have a high salt tolerance and can be used in wastewater effluents with high chloride concentrations. This ionic liquid also has the ability to bind to and remove heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic, lead, and cadmium from water by forming stable complexes. 1-Methyl-3-n-octylimidazolium Chloride has been shown to have a logarithmic growth phase at pH values between 8.5 and 10.5, with an optimum at pH 9.0.
