4,5-Methylenedithio-1,3-dithiol-2-one (MDDT) is a cyclic molecule that contains two cross-coupling moieties. It has been used as an electroactive reagent to generate voltammetric waves by coupling with electrode surfaces. The presence of the two cross-coupling moieties allows for the modulation of the cyclic voltammogram and its electronic spectra. MDDT can be synthesized in two ways: one by reacting chloroform with N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine (DMEDA), and the other by reacting DMEDA with methylenedithiocarbamic acid chloride (MSDC).
