Product Information
- Benzenemethanamine, N-hydroxy-4-methoxy-
N-(4-Methoxybenzyl)hydroxylamine is a zetekitoxin that was first synthesized in the early 1990s. It has been shown to inhibit sodium channels and block nerve conduction, with no signs of neurotoxicity. The synthesis of this compound is an example of asymmetric synthesis, which employs chiral catalysts and reagents.
N-(4-Methoxybenzyl)hydroxylamine has also been shown to have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. This compound inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the cell membrane, preventing the passage of ions across the membrane. N-(4-Methoxybenzyl)hydroxylamine also blocks the synthesis of carbohydrates in Gram-positive bacteria, causing them to starve and die.
