Product Information
Methyl 2-acetylbenzoate is a chiral β-unsaturated ketone that can be synthesized by the reaction of methyl acetoacetate with boron trifluoride diethyl etherate. It has been used as a drug molecule and in the synthesis of other drugs. Methyl 2-acetylbenzoate was prepared by asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of methyl 2-methylpropionate, which is an enolate anion. The enolate anion attacks the electrophilic carbon atom (c-h bond) on the malonate, resulting in nucleophilic attack and formation of a new covalent bond. This reaction takes place at elevated temperatures. This compound is widely used for the synthesis of other drugs, such as antihypertensive agents and anticonvulsants.
