Product Information

Name:
Methyl 2-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)acetate
Description:

Methyl 2-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)acetate is a bioactive compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It is the starting material for the synthesis of a number of compounds including dimethyl malonate, phenylacetic acid, and ethyl cyanoacetate. Methyl 2-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)acetate can be made by reacting methyl 2-bromoacetate with potassium tert-butoxide in the presence of palladium as a catalyst. The reaction proceeds via an addition-elimination mechanism that produces methyl 2-(2,4-dimethoxyphenyl)acetate as the major product and methyl 2-(phenoxycarbonyl) acetate as a minor product.
