6-Methoxysalicylic acid is a molecule that can be used for the treatment of epilepsy. It has high specificity for binding to the voltage-gated sodium channel in the brain and may have a role in regulating gastrointestinal motility. The uptake of 6-methoxysalicylic acid into the brain is rapid, with significant concentrations found in brain tissue after systemic administration. This drug also has an antinociceptive effect, which is due to its ability to inhibit pain impulse transmissions from peripheral nerve endings. 6-Methoxysalicylic acid can also be used as a template molecule for designing new drugs with similar properties.
