Motilin is a peptide hormone that stimulates the stomach to contract and increase acid secretion. It is also known as motilin-related peptide (MRP). Motilin has been shown to have a dose-dependent effect on contractility of the ileum, with higher concentrations causing more response than lower concentrations. Motilin may also be involved in the regulation of muscle tissue because it can cause an increase in amplitude of acetylcholine-induced contractions. Further studies are needed to determine what other roles motilin has in the body.
