Description:
7-Methoxy-8-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin (7MEMC) is an endogenous compound that is a metabolite of coumarin derivatives. It has been shown to be a substrate for catechol-O-methyltransferase, an important drug-metabolizing enzyme. 7MEMC has been used as a probe in assays to measure the activity of membrane permeable enzymes and as a fluorescent probe for monitoring cell membrane functions such as ion transport. 7MEMC is also capable of fluorescence quenching or fluorescence resonance energy transfer, making it a useful tool for measuring protein interactions and dynamics at the cellular level.
