Magnocurarine is a Chinese herb that contains the alkaloid magnoflorine, which has been shown to have cell-lytic and antimicrobial properties. It is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of curcuma and pueraria, two herbs that are also used in traditional medicine. Magnocurarine displays antinociceptive effects when administered intraperitoneally to mice at doses of 100, 200, or 300 mg/kg. This effect is due to its ability to inhibit the activity of hydroxyl groups on bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloids.
