Product Information

Name:
(1-Methyl-1h-imidazol-2-yl)methanol
Synonyms:
  • (1-methyl-1H-imidazole-2-yl)methanol
Description:

(1-Methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methanol is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to inhibit the gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, and Salmonella typhimurium. The carbonyl group in this molecule acts as a ligand to bind with metal ions. This binding disrupts the structure of bacterial cell walls by interfering with the enzymes responsible for their synthesis. The compound also binds to DNA, which inhibits bacterial growth by preventing replication and transcription of genetic information. (1-Methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methanol was found to have antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria when tested using x ray structures.
