Product Information
- 2-Thiophenecarboxylic Acid, 3-Fluoro-, Methyl Ester
- Methyl 3-fluorothiophene-2-carboxylate
Methyl 3-fluoro-2-thiophenecarboxylate is a fluorinating agent that efficiently adds fluorine to a variety of substrates in organic synthesis. The addition of the fluorine atom is usually accomplished by treating the substrate with an acidified solution of methyl 3-fluoro-2-thiophenecarboxylate and an excess of hydrogen fluoride. This agent is used for the preparation of amides, tetrafluoroborate, hydrazide, and other derivatives. Methyl 3-fluoro-2-thiophenecarboxylate can be decarboxylated to give an acid which can be saponified to produce a carboxylic acid. This reaction also produces xylenes as a byproduct. In addition, this compound can be used to couple two different molecules together using chemical reactions such as hydrolysis, decarboxylation, or coupling. Finally, methyl 3-fluoro-2-
