1-Methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carbonitrile is a potent cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacterial strains. It is a member of the class of phytochemical compounds and is a potent antioxidant. 1-Methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carbonitrile was found to be significantly cytotoxic in an assay against human cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis. This compound has been shown to have strong antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other bacteria, as well as anti-inflammatory properties.
