Description

Methyl 1-[(2'-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)methyl]-2-ethoxy-1H-benzimidazole-7-carboxylate is an impurity of the drug azilsartan. It is a hydroxylamine that has been shown to have antihypertensive properties in animal models. The reaction time and efficiency of hydrolysis were found to be dependent on the pH, with optimal conditions at pH 7.0 and 50°C. The optimum pH for hydrolysis was found to be pH 7.0 and 50°C for both the reaction time and efficiency. Hydrolysis occurred faster in ethanol than in water, but the product formed was less soluble in ethanol than in water.
