Magnesium fluorosilicate is a salt of magnesium and fluorosilicic acid. It is used in detergent compositions, food compositions, and other applications as a sodium salt or magnesium salt. Magnesium fluorosilicate is also used to provide fluoride ion for drinking water treatment and for the prevention of dental caries. This material has been shown to have particle size less than about 10 micrometers, excellent transport properties, thermal expansion similar to water, and low reactivity with hydrogen fluoride and water vapor.
