Methyl Pentafluoromethacrylate is a monomer that is a polymerization inhibitor. It prevents the polymerization of other monomers by reacting with the hydroxyl group on the side chain of the polymerization initiator to form an ether linkage. It does not react with the functional groups on the main chain, so it does not interfere with polymerization. Methyl Pentafluoromethacrylate can be used as a crosslinker for cationic polymers and has optical properties that are sensitive to pH changes. The rate of reaction increases when heated, giving exothermic reactions. Methyl Pentafluoromethacrylate can be identified by its characteristic nmr spectra, which displays two peaks at 2.6 ppm and 3.2 ppm in addition to a broad peak at 1.8 ppm.
