Product Information
- Benzoic acid, 4-chloro-2-fluoro-, methyl ester
- Methyl 4-chloro-2-fluorobenzoate
Methyl 4-chloro-2-fluorobenzoate is a fluorinated aromatic compound. It can be synthesized from 2-chlorobenzoyl chloride and methyl bromide in two steps. The first step is the substitution of chlorine with fluorine, which is catalyzed by sodium hypochlorite in the presence of benzene. The second step is the oxidation of the substituted product to produce methyl 4-chloro-2-fluorobenzoate. Methyl 4-chloro-2-fluorobenzoate has been shown to react with methoxycarbonyl groups to form methyl chloroformates in a single crystal x-ray diffraction study.
