Description:
Methyl 2-(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropionate is a chemical intermediate that is used in the synthesis of atropine. It is also used in the production of fluorinated compounds such as perfluoroalkyl ethers and polymers. Methyl 2-(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropionate can be synthesized by alkylation of methyl 3-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)propanoate with an ethylene or propylene oxide. The reaction product is then hydrolysed to form methyl 2-(trifluoromethyl)-3,3,3-trifluoropropionate.
