Product Information
7-Methyl-8-Trifluoromethyl-10-(1'-D-ribityl)isoxazole (7MTIF) is a phenotypic marker for the biosynthesis of purines. It is found in strains that are resistant to antibiotics, such as streptomycin, and it has been shown to be complemented by riboflavin synthase and by carbon source. 7MTIF has also been shown to additivity with damaged DNA and riboflavin synthase mutants, which may indicate that it operates in the same pathway. 7MTIF is an intermediate in the synthesis of purines, being produced by the enzyme riboflavin synthase. In vitro studies have shown that 7MTIF can inhibit bacterial growth by binding to bacterial dna gyrase or topoisomerase IV.
