4-(4-Chlorophenyl)cyclohexanol (4-ClCH) is a research chemical that can be synthesized from chlorobenzene. The synthesis of 4-ClCH from chlorobenzene proceeds in three steps: (i) the reaction with nitric acid, (ii) the reaction with potassium permanganate, and (iii) the reduction with zinc metal. This product has been used as a chloride ion donor for transition metal catalyzed reactions. Instrumentations such as gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are used to measure the yields of 4-ClCH, which is typically found at concentrations of 1% by weight. China is one of its major exporters.
