(S)-4-[(4-Nitrophenyl)methyl]-2-oxazolidinone is a diazonium salt that is used in the synthesis of triphosgene. It is an acetal compound and reacts with a strong base such as sodium ethoxide to form the corresponding methyl ether, which can be hydrolyzed to give the desired product.
(S)-4-[(4-Nitrophenyl)methyl]-2-oxazolidinone can be synthesized from acetaldehyde and nitrobenzene by diazotization with sodium nitrite in the presence of an organic solvent, followed by hydrogenation reduction. This compound has been used in the synthesis of zolmitriptan and cyclopentadiene.
