Description:

2-Nitroresorcinol is a low energy, hydroxyl group containing molecule that has intramolecular hydrogen bonding. It is used in the production of covid-19, which is a pandemic influenza vaccine. Covid-19 protects against influenza A and B viruses. 2-Nitroresorcinol is also used for the treatment of erythromycin resistant strains of staphylococcus aureus. 2-Nitroresorcinol can be synthesized from 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid by reaction with nitric acid or sulfonic acid. This process results in an intermediate that can be reduced to 2-nitroresorcinol using hydrogen gas and a catalyst such as platinum. The functional theory predicts that 2-nitroresorcinol will form hydrogen bonds with other molecules due to its ability to form intermolecular hydrogen bonds and vibrate at a relatively high frequency.
