Naphthalene-2-sulfonohydrazide is an activated form of naphthalene that is a lipase inhibitor. This compound has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of pancreatic lipase, with a K i value in the low micromolar range. Naphthalene-2-sulfonohydrazide also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, which are essential for bacterial cell wall biosynthesis and may act as an antimicrobial agent against Staphylococcus species.
