1,6-Naphthyridine-5-carboxylic acid is a Grignard reagent that can be prepared by the reaction of phenylmagnesium bromide with methanol in an alkaline medium. The Grignard reagent can then undergo alkylation reactions with a variety of organic compounds, including chloride and methylmagnesium chloride. This compound is also used as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of benzaldehyde. 1,6-Naphthyridine-5-carboxylic acid is also an acid hydrolysis agent for the preparation of an alkaline solution from benzaldehyde and water.
