N-Methylisobutylamine is a chemical that is used in the synthesis of various drugs. It is an alkylthio amine and has been shown to have biological properties, such as the induction of inflammatory bowel disease. Nitro compounds are also known for their carcinogenic effects, which may be due to their ability to bind to macromolecules and form DNA adducts. N-Methylisobutylamine can be obtained by reacting nitrobenzene with methanol and then hydrolyzing the resulting product with hydrochloric acid. The reaction of methylisobutylamine with hydroxylamine leads to the formation of isovaleric acid.
