2-Nitro-1-naphthol is a chemical compound that is used in the analytical method of measuring albumin concentration. This substance reacts with albumin to form a colored complex, which can be detected by spectrophotometry. The reaction rate of 2-nitro-1-naphthol with albumin is proportional to the hydroxyl group concentration and the pH. The formation rate of 2-nitro-1-naphthol is dependent on the concentration of nitrous acid (HNO) and the temperature. 2-Nitro-1-naphthol can be used as a model system for studying inflammatory diseases and can inhibit p38 kinase activity. It has also been found to have antiinflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
