7-Nitrogramine is a nitro group with a hydrogen chloride molecule. It is used in the synthesis of dichloroacetate, which is an ethyl ester of dichloroacetic acid and dimethylamine. 7-Nitrogramine can be made by reacting nitric acid with hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride in the presence of ethyl esters. This gives nitroglycerin, which is then oxidized to produce nitro groups on the molecule. The reaction can also be performed as a fication reaction, where the nitric acid reacts with dichloroacetate to produce 7-nitroglycerin.
